Y'all smell that? Derb season is officially upon us. We kick off the first points qualifier this weekend on Saturday, Feb 29th. Lake choice is going to either be Lake Mitchell, or Lake Martin. Most of you have already cast your votes for which lake (if you haven't already, email Scott asap). You can also cast your vote at the meeting, which will be held at Hickory Tavern in Brookwood Mall on Thursday, Feb 27th. We will draw for boat paring while there, so if you plan to fish please try to attend. We STILL have a few OPEN seats on the no-boater side, so if you are a prospect or a member that would like to fish this event, please let someone know ASAP. Joey Hu$tleMoney has a literal ton of Brand Spanking new Molix baits he is bringing to sell at a deep deep discount. Jigs, Flipping weights, Spinner Baits etc. Also Bruce is bringing some Powell, and Hammer rods, so bring some green-backs with you to take advantage of these great deals. See you guys there, Author~Tro It was extreme conditions for the BBC members fishing the first AL Nation qualifier on Lake Guntersville last Saturday. From golf ball sized snow falling, mixed in with sleet and rain, to dirty blown out water it made for some tough fishing across the board. However that didn't stop these guys from getting it done. Congratulations to Josh Dees (9th place), and Charles Rosato (11th place) from the front of the boat. From the back of the boat Kryon Jones (3rd place) and, Anthony Mills (14th place) got a great jump on the year in the points race. The next stop on the Al Bass Nation Trail will be at Eufaula on March 14th. Don't forget, our next club meeting will be on Feb 27th at Hickory Tavern 5:30-9:30. See you there! Photo credit: Greg McCain Birmingham Bass Clubs Bruce Sargent, and President Josh Dees have been down in Okeechobee, FL practicing for the 2020 TNT Fireworks B.A.S.S. Nation Southeastern Regional tournament on Lake Okeechobee.
Day one of the event kicks off tomorrow on Jan 29th, and will end on Jan 31st. The winners will advance to 2020 TNT Fireworks B.A.S.S Nation Championship scheduled for Nov. 11-13 on Pickwick Lake located in Florence, AL. From there the top three anglers from the overall standings in both the boater and non-boater divisions will earn a berth to the 2021 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster classic presented by Huk. I will post updates as they come in. You may also follow along on B.A.S.S. website by clicking here. Good luck men, and give em' hell. So, it’s been tough year across the board. Financial issues, New babies, New boats, New heath issues, New jobs but we still showed up and fished, damn it! First: We are homeless. We had a short but good one-year run at Saw’s Juke Joint. The Mountain Brooke folk got sick of watching Shrek walk into city limits. Temporally, we are rotating meetings regionally until we land on permanent spot. Huge news!!!!! Our resident club celebrity, Lee Byrd, will be hosting our next club meeting at his place in Lakeside, downtown. Thank you, Lee. We appreciate you. Be there on the 26th at 6ish. We need to vote on a slate of officers and discuss the monumental changes the AL Bass Nation has put in place. As far as Martin…Brian… dude… I’m sorry brother. AOY…Big Spot…Big LM…Game Over, Man. In all honesty, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer, awesome fisherman… we love ya brother. Congrats Joey Aderhold on the victory (22.79 lbs) on the boater side, and Charles Rosato (10.89 lbs) on the no-boater side. AOY Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bruce continues his reign. Great work! A nail biting tie breaker with Brian ended up in his favor. Steven White, amazing work on an outstanding performance at the Championship that sealed the deal on your AOY for the back of the boat guys. Joey scored big spot of the year at the Championship at 4.5 lbs. Last but not least, Scott Holmes, damn… 7.25 beast… at Martin!!!! Thanks for a great year! Please be at Lee’s on 10/26 around 6. 927 28th Street South Birmingham, AL 35205 We need to get an idea on attendance so we can order food! Email me at rkinder@uab.edu
The Livewell: Restifo Triples, Holmes Hammers, Byrdman Soars, Kimbrell…comes up a little short.11/1/2016 It was an eventful Alabama Bass Nation State Championship on Neely Henry.
So, let’s get this out of the way. I fished poorly. I didn’t weigh a fish…either day. The host of our last meeting, Michael Restifo, sealed the deal on his remarkable season as a newly no-boater. With his 5th place finish at the Coosa, he triple qualified for the state team (AOY, 1ST at Martin, and 5th at the Championship). Congrats to Michael for his remarkable Angler of the year season on the AL Bass Nation Tour. Scott Holmes caught a buzz on his way to big fish and state qualification. It seems Mr. Holmes coaxed the spots to choke on his metal contraption, landing in 4th place and a spot on the state team. After a tough year or so, he has certainly earned every once and I’m sure will represent our state well at next year’s regional Tournament on Lake of the Ozarks. Lee does what he does… scored another State Team title under his belt. In his own way…silent and deadly… The 1990 Bassmaster Classic competitor continues to be an outstanding leader and mentor to us all. My brother from another mother, Kyle Kimbrell. He has had an unprecedented year. On the club side, and the AL nation, he has absolutely crushed them this year. Unfortunately, this was a tough event for our Warrior River rover. A short fish on day one solidified his heart-breaking 0.18 lb short coming, and just barely missed out on the state team. We certainly expect another great year in 2017 for Kyle. A round of applause of Micheal, Scott and Lee as they plan to take on the Ozarks in early April. Our winter series begins at Smith lake on Nov. 12. Buddy style. One of team member must be a member. Talk to our boy Kyle if you’re interested. Thanks for a great year. Since our next meeting is scheduled for thanksgiving, it will be moved to a week earlier on Nov. 17...at Saw’s Juke Joint. El Presidente' Randy This just in… Scott Holmes just caught another 11inch bass on a fluke, Bruce’s favorite letter is “w”, Bill Kervaski’s boat is still clean, Michael likes Tacos, Eric is a %$&*, Mr. White has a posse and Kyle found a 5lb bass under his hotel bed. Wrapping up our season at Neely Henry. some fairly challenging (keeper) fishing conditions emerged. The two-day championship yielded an interesting blend of both Spotted and Largeheads. The large spots didn’t really show up…A-BEAR caught a good one…seriously. But, it was on a buzzbait…so I don’t know if you can really say he was fishing for “Spots”. The big dudes were LMB’s. The four biggest…Kyle 5.31…Kyle 5.12…Josh Dickert 4.60...and Mr. Howle found a 4.97 toad in the camo boat. The E man closes out Angler of the year with a victory on the co-angler side, in an effort that was more challenging than he probably expected. But he bought Matthew (his boater) sausage briskets on Sunday morning, therefore the bass showed up in the Hebert boat. Seriously, if you feed him…they will come. Great job Eric. Oh, Bruce won the boater side...and AOY… The run-down for Neely: Boater: #1 Bruce: 19.74 #2 Kyle: 18.94 #3 Scott: 16.17 #4 Matthew : 16.14 No-boater: #1 Eric: 13.20 #2 Charles: 12.60 #3 Will: 10.33 #4 Dickert: 9.65 Boat weight: Day 1 - Hebert/Howle 15.36 Day 2 -Sargent/Rosato 20.02 Year-end awards: Big Fish for the year: Eric won big Spot (4.33lbs at Jordan) and Kyle won Big Largemouth at (5.31 at Neely Henry) They scored $390 each. Angler of the year: Boater- Bruce Sargent - 409 points (Scott Homes 2nd with 391) Co-Angler- Eric Howle - 413 points (Steven White 2nd with 400) ------- Not that his head needs to get any bigger, but a huge thank you goes out to Bruce for an amazing Tournament Season - both on and off the water. Thanks, Bruce. -------- A huge shout-out to our newest member, Jake Maddox of Spain Park. He finished 2nd in this week’s Alabama High School Bass Fishing Association regional 3 tournament at Lay Lake on Saturday (100 boats). Jake had a three fish limit of 8.02. Great job, Jake. Ironically, he was bested by my friend’s son from Vestavia, Nicholas Maluff, who had an unimaginable three fish limit of 13.75. He’s a jr…I’ll get him on board next year. ------- Oct 20. Next Meeting - The Restifo's Lastly, please make it to the First Annual BBC Fiesta and Meeting at Casa De Restifo on Oct. 20th! Michael is hosting our next meeting at his home. This meeting is a week earlier due to the Nation Championship the following week. A taco truck is scheduled to be on site, and beverages will be ready for consumption. Feel free to BYOB if you’d like. We need to plan for food and drink so please RSVP to me by next Friday at 10/14. You need to show-up! We will be presenting the officer slate for next year, and discussing the plan for 2017. So, don’t be lazy…RSVP today...email me (rkinder@uab.edu). I’ll buy your first taco …and beer. Casa de Restifo 2036 Highlands Dr, Birmingham, AL 35244 Here is the google map to his house: https://goo.gl/maps/yqVpGhDKrFR2 Thanks to all for a great year. It’s been a pleasure. Randy EL jefe de presidente Hi, interweb. It’s been awhile. The Birmingham Bass Club is alive and well. Unfortunately, I haven’t been feeling as such lately. A weekend of the stomach bug followed by an extended stay from a respiratory infection had me operating at half-speed. The only good thing that came from my illness was sure embarrassment at this weekend’s Club Tournament at Logan Martin. Eric Howle showed up big time once again in the no-boater field, by chalking up a victory and big bass nods. This victory could potentially create an insurmountable distance between him and Steven White for back of the boat Angler of the Year… we’ll see how things shake out at the end-of-year BBC Championship on Neely Henry in two short weeks, Oct 1 & 2. (Reminder, the bottom-two performances are thrown out) Scott Holmes owes Bruce Sargent a beer, or two. As member Will McRee shared eloquently through facebook today, Scott broke his boat again. He also won the Tournament. Huge Kudos to Bruce for leaving his fish mid-day to rescue Mr. BBQ, only to be bested by Scotty’s limit. I love these guys. Yes, we are very competitive. Yes, we want to beat each other. But, we take care of each other. Bruce's 2nd place now has him healthy in First Place for Boater AOY. (The points on the site are updated) Here are the top-three for the tourney… Non-Boaters 1 Eric Howle 7.29 Big Bass 3.39 2 David Wilson 5.76 3 Steven White 5.5 Boaters 1 Scott Holmes 12.38 2 Bruce Sargent 12.26 Big Bass 3.45 3 Nathan George 8.66 The BBC has a big few weeks ahead with a club meeting at Saws on Thursday, our Club Championship in Two weeks, and our Off-site Club Meeting at the Restifo’s on Oct. 20th! My best to all! El Presidente…Randito
Nation news ------
P-wick Al Nation Tournament challenges the Bham boys The guys from the 205 represented the best club in the state well despite the Tennessee rivers off-shore curves balls. The Byrd man was the top boater from our club, with a 13th place finish. Our no-boaters continue to hammer the field with another top 5 performance from Michael Restifo, who has a 10 pt. lead on angler of the year over our very own Kyle Kimbrell. Plus, we had another 4 anglers in the top 20. We actually have four co-anglers in the top 10 for AOY ( Restifo 1, Kimbrell 2, Howle 6, and Rosato 10). We also have two boaters in the top 5 for AOY (Byrd 3, Sargent 5) The next tournament is the Annual Old Man Tournament on August on Aug 6th and the next points event is at Logan Martin on Sept. 17th. 5/21 - Franklin's Ferry, Warrior River. Counts bests Warrior with an onslaught of grass bass. Defeating his nearest boating competitor by more than 4lbs, Ben brought 15.39 to the scales. He also claimed big fish in the boater division with a 4.38 greenfish. Sargent (11.03) landed in second as he continues his AOY push. Kyle Kimbrell broke in his new Ranger with a solid 3rd place performance (9.38). 2015 State Team member, Charles Rosato, stomped the co-angler field by nearly 3.5lbs! His 4.67lbs largehead was the biggest of the contest. Wallace Williams and Steven White wrapped up the top three with 7.15 and 7.13lbs, respectively. Our next tournament is at Guntersville on June 18th! Our next meeting is on Thursday 5/26 at Saws Juke Joint (6:30 meeting time)!
